Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the operator of RangeBites handles information. It is part of your agreement to use the Service, together with the Terms of Use.
1. Operator
RangeBites is an information-only food app at rangebites.com, designed, published, and operated by an individual website developer (the “Operator”). No account is required. The Operator does not run a diner email list. RangeBites is not a reservation service, not legal, tax, or financial advice, and not RangeBits or any finance product.
1a. Non-tracking
RangeBites does not store information about you on its servers; some choices are kept only on this device. Location is used only to show nearby places and is not saved. The Operator does not build a profile of you and does not save GPS.
2. Information we do not collect
The Operator does not create user accounts, does not collect diner email addresses, does not use advertising trackers, and does not store a location history. The Operator does not store your latitude or longitude in cookies, local storage, or on the host as a profile.
3. Locate Me and city search
If you choose Locate Me, your device may share a coordinate with the browser so the Service can request nearby restaurants. That coordinate is held in memory for the current search. It is not saved as a GPS trail. In-memory coordinates are cleared when you tap Clear location, or when the page fully unloads. They are not wiped on a brief page hide, the iOS location permission sheet, or switching apps.
If you search a city, that text is sent to look up the area only when you tap Search or press Enter. There is no search-as-you-type. The city is not added to the page address. If you tap Share, the shared link includes the city you searched. The city is not saved on this device or on the host. This device may remember range, filter choices, and distance units (mi or km as text). Those choices stay on this device and are not sent. It may also store a flag that you tapped “Got it” on the first-search notice. It also stores the date of the Terms version you accepted by tapping Continue, and whether you've seen the Terms-updated notice. These stay on this device and are not sent. Saved restaurants are described in section 4. Filters includes Clear my saved data, which removes saved restaurants and those on-device choices.
4. Saved restaurants (hearts)
If you heart a listing, this device may store its OpenStreetMap identifier, name, and address. That list does not include latitude or longitude and is not a GPS trail. Hearts remain on this device and are not sent. You may unheart a restaurant, tap Clear saved, or tap Clear my saved data in Filters.
5. What is transmitted to provide the Service
To show places near you, your search goes through our host’s proxy to OpenStreetMap services. Places are found by the Overpass API server run by OpenStreetMap France (overpass.openstreetmap.fr). A city you type is looked up by the Nominatim geocoder run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (nominatim.openstreetmap.org). If you use Locate Me, the place search includes the latitude and longitude your browser shared, rounded to 3 decimal places, which still places you within about 100 m. Our host sees your IP address when it passes the search along. Because the request goes through our host, the Overpass and Nominatim servers receive the request from our host, not from your device. Your browser’s language preference (Accept-Language) is passed along; it only affects place-name lookups (Nominatim), which use it to choose the language of place names. Map images load from a community OpenStreetMap tile server (tile.openstreetmap.de, run by FOSSGIS e.V. for OpenStreetMap Germany), which sees your IP address and the map area you view. We don’t save your coordinates or build a location history.
Each of those requests happens at the moment you search or view the map. RangeBites does not store the search, the coordinates, or your IP address. The host may keep its own connection log. The host also counts requests from each IP address for up to about an hour to stop overuse; RangeBites cannot see or keep those counts. RangeBites does not write a visitor record.
To avoid repeat requests, the open page keeps its last few public OpenStreetMap answers for typed-city searches in memory for about 10 minutes, keyed only by the city text or the city’s map point (rounded to about 100 m). Locate Me searches are never cached. Cached answers are dropped after about 10 minutes, when you tap Clear location, or when the page closes, and are never written to this device or to our host.
Restaurants can email rangebites@agentmail.to about a special. Nothing is collected through this site.
The site is served over HTTPS. Files are hosted on here.now, which runs on Cloudflare. If a page fails to load, your browser may send Cloudflare a network-error report; RangeBites does not receive or keep it.
6. Analytics and tracking
RangeBites is a free site that tracks nobody. It does not use device codes, analytics identifiers, visitor tracking, or third-party analytics or trackers. It does not log page views, taps, referrers, or user agents. A city search or Locate Me is used only during that search to show nearby places, then dropped. It is not stored as tracking data.

We don’t track you across other websites, and we don’t let third parties do so through RangeBites, so we don’t change anything in response to browser Do Not Track signals.
7. Listings
Restaurant names, hours, and maps come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL), and some chain hours come from AllThePlaces store-locator data (CC0). Both are used as-is and may be wrong. The matching method is documented in the project's public source repository (tools/build-atp-hours.py and app.js). There is no warranty that a listing is accurate, open, or still there.
8. What we do not do
The Operator does not sell personal information, does not require an account to browse, does not store reservations, does not use advertising trackers, and does not collect diner emails.
9. Third parties
Restaurant listings and hours come from OpenStreetMap contributors; some chain hours come from AllThePlaces (CC0), a public dataset built from chains’ own store locators. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy (Nominatim). Place searches are answered by the Overpass server named in section 5 (OpenStreetMap France), and map images by FOSSGIS e.V. (tile.openstreetmap.de); their own policies apply. When you open Google Maps, Apple Maps, or a restaurant website, those services’ policies apply. RangeBites does not scrape those services or display their star ratings on our pages.
10. Your choices
You may deny location permission and still search any city. You may unheart restaurants, tap Clear saved, or tap Clear my saved data in Filters. Clear my saved data removes saved restaurants and on-device filter choices from this device. It does not send anything. You may also reset filters with Filters › Clear. Tap Clear location to wipe the in-memory search, or fully unload the page. A brief page hide, the iOS location permission sheet, or switching apps does not clear the in-memory search. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes everything the site stored on this device.

12. Children
The Service is intended for persons 13 years of age and older. It is not directed to children under 13. The Operator does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
13. Changes
The Operator may update this Policy by posting a revised version with a new effective date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
